The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the excise policy. The questioning is scheduled for November 2, according to official sources.

Arvind Kejriwal, aged 55, has been summoned under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency is set to record his statement once he appears before the investigating officer in Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national convenor has been directed to appear at the ED’s Delhi office at 11 am on November 2. Notably, this is the first time Kejriwal has been summoned by the ED, although he was previously questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April as part of this case.

The ED has referenced Kejriwal’s name multiple times in its chargesheets related to the case, suggesting that the accused were in contact with the AAP leader regarding the formulation and execution of the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

In a related development, the Supreme Court has rejected two separate bail requests from former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in corruption and money-laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scandal. The Supreme Court has noted that a transfer of ₹338 crore was tentatively established in connection with the case.

Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023 for alleged irregularities in the development and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy. The policy had been withdrawn following allegations of misconduct by the opposition.

As of now, Manish Sisodia remains in judicial custody. The CBI has asserted that Sisodia played a pivotal role in the criminal conspiracy and was deeply involved in the formulation and execution of the said policy to advance the objectives of the alleged conspiracy.

In another development, the Supreme Court has dismissed Manish Sisodia’s bail plea related to cases concerning an alleged liquor scam.
